YSL Beauty marked the UK launch of Black Opium Pink Glaze with a London Block Party activation, bringing together culture shapers and celebrities to celebrate the new fragrance.
The event took over Rough Trade East in Brick Lane, a 1970s venue that has long shaped the local music scene. YSL Beauty’s Global Brand President, Yann Andrea, told Cosmetics Business that the Block Party series acts as a masterclass in hyper-local infiltration, traveling the globe to celebrate creative expression.
“Over the past months, the YSL Beauty Block Party has established itself as a highly successful new event territory for the brand,” Andrea said. “It is a new way for the house to engage with culture: locally rooted, emotionally resonant and impossible to replicate.”
The company’s deep-rooted connection to music provided the backdrop for the launch. By taking over an iconic record store, the group emphasized the sonic elements of the new scent, which is positioned as a “thrilling” addition to its hero franchise.
Alisha Boe, the newly appointed Global Ambassador for Black Opium Pink Glaze, was present at the Brick Lane venue. The 13 Reasons Why actress joined the celebration, marking her role as the face of the new product.
Andrea noted that the London location was chosen for its rich musical history and cosmopolitan character. The company often selects sites that reflect the local underground culture, using the space to blend fragrance with live performance.
Connecting fragrance to nightlife culture
The London Block Party was designed to mirror the energy of a night out. It combined music, nightlife, and fragrance in a single venue. This approach mirrors how the Black Opium line itself has been marketed, focusing on the energetic, late-night aspects of the scent profile.

Brick Lane provided a fitting backdrop for the event. The street is known for its street art, markets, and live music venues, all of which align with the brand’s strategy of tapping into local creative scenes.
Andrea said the event felt like a natural extension of the brand’s identity. “It felt only natural to celebrate a moment as important as Alisha Boe joining Black Opium with a YSL Beauty Block Party,” he added.
The activation highlighted how fashion and fragrance brands are increasingly using physical spaces to create immersive experiences rather than relying solely on traditional advertising.
While the Block Party series is relatively new for the house, it has already expanded to multiple cities. The format allows the brand to test different cultural touchpoints in each location, adjusting the program to fit local trends and music styles.
Andrea described the approach as a way to engage with audiences who might not follow conventional beauty campaigns. By focusing on music and lifestyle, the brand hopes to build a more emotional connection with consumers.
